It has been confirmed that Disney has indeed dropped Johnny Depp from the upcoming Pirates Of The Carribean film.
In an interview given to the Hollywood Reported, the Chief of the Disney film production, Sean Bailey was asked about the new direction in which Pirates of The Carribean would be heading and if it could survive without Johnny Depp, he said,
We want to bring in a new energy and vitality. I love the Pirates movies, but part of the reason Paul and Rhett (writers of the film) are so interesting is that we want to give it a kick in the pants. And that’s what I’ve tasked them with.
Reports that Johnny Depp’s iconic character Captain Jack Sparrow would not be featured in the Pirates reboot surfaced during a red carpet interview given by the film’s screenwriter Stuart Beattie in October. He said that Johnny’s time with the franchise has been “a great run”. Johnny made the character a real fun, people all over the world love him as Jack Sparrow, he loves the character. It was great for him and it has been great for us.
Johnny Depp, who is currently 55 years old has been playing the iconic role of Jack Sparrow for 14 years. The five films of the franchise grossed over 4.5 billion dollars, making it the twelfth most earning franchise of all time.
The latest in the Pirates of the Carribean series film Dead Men Tell No Tales, was released in 2017. When Johnny Depp was cast for the role in Pirates of the Carribean, people thought it was crazy, but he proved his mettle. It would be interesting to see the new cast and the new lead.
