RSS, Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh, as you must be knowing, is a right-wing National volunteer organization that supports Hinduism and Hindu Nationalists in India. It’s been 94 years for the formation of RSS i.e. it was started in the year 1925. Now this organization has more than 6 million members following the same thinking which it was started. The main focus of this group was to unite the Hindu community to form a Hindu Rashtra and spreading the ideology of Hindutva.

1. Freeing the state of Goa from the Portuguese in the year 1961:

It is well known that the Portuguese once ruled Goa and this continued for about 450 years. Jawaharlal Nehru at that time refused to provide any armed forces and initiative to rescue Goa and this is where the RSS demanded the end of Portuguese rule in Goa. A Satyagrah agitation was led by RSS leader Jagannath Rao Joshi in Goa which made the Portuguese to leave Goa. But he had to face imprisonment by the Portuguese police for the Satyagrah started by him.

2. RSS also initiated the Muslim improvement platform known as Muslim Rashtriya Manch: 

It is hard to believe that RSS started a Muslim organization as the ideology of RSS is well known. But it is a truth that Muslim Rashtriya Manch which is a Muslim organization was started in the year 2002. This was exactly after the Gujrat riots and you must know that Narendra Modi was the chief minister of Gujrat during that time and he was also accused of the communal anger. To remove the negative impact and clean their image, they came up with MRM for Muslims.

3. Atal Bihari Vajpayee is the first Karsevak to be the Prime Minister:  

RSS also made a party as a subsidiary in the year 1951 which was called Bhartiya Jan Sangh. This introduced multiple high profile politicians to Indian politics but it was Atal Bihari Vajpayee who won the hearts and was made the Prime Minister of India(first time from RSS). Also, he was the one under which India became a Nuclear power and he also became famous after the Godhra train incident and became an important PM.

4. The assassinator of Gandhiji – Nathuram Godse was an RSS member: 

RSS not only had a good share in the Indian history, but it also has a bunch of controversies attached to its name, one of which is the famous assassination of Gandhiji by the member of RSS – Nathuram Godse. When he planned to attack Gandhi Ji, he was removed from the Sangh, but being a prior member, many people were arrested and accused of the assassination.

5. RSS has been banned a total of 3 times due to controversies:

RSS surely has a fair share of controversies under its name and since its inception, this Sangh has been already banned 3 times. The first time it was banned when Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on 30th January just because of minorities and the second time RSS was banned during the time of the Indira Gandhi regime. The last time it was banned when a controversial historical event – Babri Masjid demolition took place.
