Getting a role on this fantasy drama wasn’t easy, an actor had to be screened through a rigorous procedure proving their talent. 5. NINA DOBREV (ELENA GILBERT, KATHERINE PIERCE, TATIA, AMARA)

Portraying a book character is not easy from any account especially when the fans of the book already have plenty of expectations which places an immense pressure on the actor. But Nina Dobrev who initially received criticism for being cast as Elena Gilbert as the book readers know that Elena in the books has blue eyes and blonde hair. But once the show aired, the fans found her performance satisfactory. Elena is the central character of the Vampire Diaries who has been involved in a love triangle with the Salvatores. Apart from the character of Elena, she has also portrayed the characters of Katherine, Amara, and Tatia, the Petrova Doppelgangers who are the lookalikes of Elena. Katherine served as the great antagonist of the show who made tormented the lives of the Salvatores and the Mystic Falls Gang. She is known for being vicious and manipulative which has made her the ultimate survivor.

In Season 5, she portrayed Amara who is the progenitor of the Petrova Doppelgangers. Amara was the lover of Silas who tricked Qetsiyah in making the immortal elixir which he gave to Amara. However, when Qetsiyah learned the reality, she converted Amara into the Anchor where she suffered for thousands of years. Nina Dobrev also crossed over to the Originals where she appeared in a flashback episode playing Tatia, the first Petrova Doppelganger created by Nature to balance the immortality of Amara.

4. ZACH ROERIG (MATT DONOVAN, ETHAN MAXWELL)

Zach Roerig also pulled off a double duty on the Vampire Diaries. While his portrayal of Matt Donovan received mixed reviews from the fans. Some criticized the storylines surrounding Matt. But ultimately Matt grew through all the challenges and became the ultimate survivor, standing right till the end. Max has also played the character of Ethan Maxwell in Season 8 Episode ‘What Are You?’ in a flashback episode. Ethan was great friends with Beatrice Bennett who was the ancestor of Bonnie Bennett. He was a metalsmith who created the Maxewell bell which could influence the magic. Ethan also knew the way to kill Cade and recorded it in his journal.
