The show creators chose actors and actresses who are in their young 20s to portray the teenagers on the show. This is purposely done, had they cast teenage actors for the roles then it would have affected their education and schooling, also would have sent a wrong message. Secondly, there are multiple scenes where the characters could be seen studying in the class, attending lectures, visiting their school & college. This is to send the message that education is important even if you are a century old vampire, and teenagers shouldn’t skip classes.
