5 Interesting Facts About Stefan & Damon Salvatore’s Relationship

3. SIMILARITIES IN WOMEN

The CW

The brothers had contrasting personalities, but they shared plenty of similarities, from their taste in beverages to their taste in women. Interestingly, both Stefan and Damon have been intimate with the same four women. They both have dated Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce. Whereas both of them have also been involved with Rebekah Mikaelson and Caroline Forbes. Although in the case of Caroline, it was Damon’s compulsion that resulted in their intimacy whereas Stefan and Caroline ended up marrying each other.

2. THE ENDING

The CW
  • Fans are still divided over the ending. Some feel it was the perfect ending TVD could have. Damon and Elena ended up together, living a normal human life, and then reuniting with their loved ones in the afterlife. But that wasn’t the original plan. Ian Somerhalder has made it clear that his vision for the ending involved both Stefan & Damon not making out alive. He felt that it would make sense after all the chaos and destruction the brothers brought to the lives of the others. He didn’t feel like Damon should get a happy ending.
  • Another similar ending idea was both Stefan & Damon sacrificing themselves for Elena who would then end up with someone else, live her life with the memories of the Salvatores, and the brothers would watch over her. But with the departure of Nina Dobrev, the plans were scrapped, and they decided to go with the current.
The CW
  • Did you know there was a chance the love triangle between Stefan, Damon, and Elena could have become relevant again in the final season. Kevin Williamson wanted Elena to end up with Stefan, they would have brought back the love triangle had Nina been a regular part of Season 8, but it wasn’t possible for them to throw a love triangle story arc in the final episode as it wouldn’t make any sense. Elena was with Damon before she went into a magical coma (when Nina left the show). So it made sense that she is reunited with Damon after she woke up. It was Nina Dobrev’s exit that shifted the focus of the show from the love triangle to the brother’s relationship in Season 7 and then Season 8.
  • TVD ended with the final ‘Hello Brother’ of Damon. It’s a callback to his first-ever line on the show in the pilot episode when he confronts Stefan. This line was significant and it marked the show coming full circle and concluded the show in a meaningful way as the brothers’ relationship was damaged when they first shared the screen in the pilot whereas in the final scene they embrace each other with love. But did you know the original line that Damon was supposed to say was “I see they have hero hair in the heaven”. So glad they changed that line as even though it’s something you can expect Damon to say, but it wouldn’t have the same impact.

1. BROTHERS BEYOND THE SCREEN

The CW

Both Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder who portrayed the roles of Stefan And Damon Salvatore shared a genuine bond that extended beyond the screen. The two have remained great friends and have launched a business venture together called ‘Brother’s Bond’. In an interview, they both shared how they spent a long time together away from family and friends. They would read lines together or play guitar. They both said in an interview that it was their real-life brotherly relationship that was reflected in their on-screen characters.
