3. THE HYRBIDS WHO ARE ALIVE NOW
There have been numerous hybrids of different kind in the TVD Universe. A pack of unsuccessful hybrids died of blood loss and were mercy killed by Klaus in Season 3. And the ones who were successfully turned were also killed by Klaus as a punishment for their defiance. Many others were killed by the Mystic Falls Gang, the hunter Connor Jordan. Other notable hybrids such as Klaus, Hayley, Kai have died. The only remaining Hybrids int he TVD Universe are Hope Mikaelson who is a tribrid, Valerie Tulle who’s the only remaining witch-vampire hybrid, and the four unnamed werewolf-vampire hybrids who Klaus turned using Hope’s blood to protect her.
2. BREAKING THE SIREBOND
A normal werewolf-vampire hybrid can break free of their sirebond, but they have to undergo huge deal of pain and suffering repeatedly to attain the freedom. After learning a lesson from Bill Forbes in breaking the sirebond, Tyler Lockwood went to the mountains where he transformed again and again into a werewolf to get used to the pain. He met a girl named Hayley who taught him how to control himself through months of self-torture.
1. HYBRID CURSE
When Klaus killed for the first time, he triggered his werewolf gene and turned into a hybrid. However, when he realized his true nature, he was devastated, and in a fit of rage, he killed some villagers. When Mikael discovered the truth, he ordered Esther to suppress the werewolf side of Klaus. Esther placed a hybrid curse on Klaus, making his werewolf side become dormant.
She channeled the power of full moon into the moonstone and a vampire, a werewolf were sacrificed to represent the two aspects of his hybrid nature. Klaus ultimately became free of the curse in TVD Season 2. The ritual however cost the lives of Elena, Jenna, and Jules. Elena was brought back to life when John Gilbert gave up his life in exchange for Elena. However, this isn’t the only time the Hybrid Curse has been performed or attempted. In Season 5, Freya Mikaelson attempts to cast the spell on her niece Hope to bind her werewolf side so that she won’t trigger the werewolf curse and won’t have to go through the transformation. However, Klaus stopped her, knowing the history of the curse that he went through.
Again in Season 5, Greta Sienna who wanted to take revenge from Klaus and the Mikaelson family took the help of an unnamed witch to place a curse on the hybrid Hayley. Through the curse, the werewolf nature of Hayley was bound and she was left as a vampire. This ultimately also became the reason of her demise as she sacrificed herself by stepping out with Greta to save her family.
