Matt Donovan is one of the most few characters who managed to survive throughout all the dangerous Supernatural enemies and what’s rare is that he managed to hold on to his humanity. You’d be surprised to know that it’s not like Matt Donovan never died, this character has died a total number of five times which is definitely one of the highest counts in TVD Universe. But he managed to pull through, return back to the land of living somehow. He also holds the distinction of being one of the two humans who managed to kill off an Original Vampire. Matt Donovan is responsible for the death of Finn Mikaelson. He is also one of the few characters who managed to stay human throughout the Vampire Diaries. The showrunners once mentioned having a plan to turn him into a Vampire, but the idea never came into fruition.
4. JEREMY GILBERT
Along with Matt, Jeremy also holds the achievement of killing off an Original Vampire. He is responsible for the demise of Kol Mikaelson. Interestingly, Kol forged a friendship with Jeremy in order to get information and track him on the instructions of Klaus. By the end of Season 6, Jeremy Gilbert leaves Mystic Falls to carve his own path. Actually the writers didn’t have any more storylines for the character of Jeremy, along with the character of Tyler Lockwood, the writers have tried almost everything with him. He’s later seen making an appearance on the Legacies. Many people wonder why he doesn’t make an appearance in TVD Finale especially in the Gilbert Family Reunion scene. Even though his name is mentioned. The reason being the obvious that he is very well alive and therefore not in the afterlife.
