The story began when Stefan returned to Mystic Falls to get to know more about the girl named Elena whom he saved in a car accident. Their first interaction happens when Elena bumps into Stefan while exiting from the men’s washroom. Later, Elena finds herself surrounded by fog in the cemetery, terrified Elena tries to get away, but ends up injuring herself. She again encounters Stefan Salvatore, but he flees after noticing Elena’s blood. The two slowly start bonding and decide to see each other again. Elena visits the Salvatore House where she comes across Damon who mentions about Stefan’s ex Katherine. Disheartened Elena leaves, Stefan later tries assuring her that he’s through Katherine, but she still thinks it’s not going to work. Their feelings for each other blossom into a romance as they both fall in love with each other. They stayed loyal to each other and their relationship ran smoothly throughout Season 1 & 2.
However, Season 2 finale saw Stefan Salvatore leave Mystic Falls to be with Klaus to keep his word in exchange for saving Damon’s life from the werewolf bite. Stelena loses contact in Season 2, Elena kept searching for Stefan with the help of Damon, but she too starts developing feelings for Damon in the absence of Damon. The two ultimately end up kissing which marks the first Delena moment in the series. However, in Season 3 finale, Elena let Damon knew that she is going to choose Stefan over him, but she ends up dying in the car crash. She awakens as a vampire in transition.

Both of them never wanted to be a vampire and were forced against their will. In case of Stefan, he was compelled by Katherine Pierce to drink her blood whereas Elena suffered a cerebral haemorrhage, Dr. Meredith Fell injected her with Damon’s blood to save her life. Coincidentally, both of them were turned into vampires by the blood of their blood. In case of Stefan, it was Katherine’s blood whereas Elena was turned using Damon’s blood. Both of them are kind souls and therefore vampirism was a curse to them.
