5 Mistakes In The Originals That Fans Didn’t Seem To Notice

3. PRACTISING MAGIC OUTSIDE NEW ORLEANS?

The CW

The witch Sophie Deveraux once said that the New Orleans witches practice the Ancestral Magic. Their connection is to the Ancestors who grant them the power. So if a witch leaves the city of New Orleans, their access to the Ancestral magic is cut off. They are no longer a witch. However, when Finn who was possessing the body of the witch Vincent, is able to practice magic in the episode ‘The Devil is Cursed’. A possible explanation is that he was channeling Mikael and Esther.

Another instance in the Season 3 episode ‘Behind The Black Horizon’, we see the Ancestors punishing Vincent when he refuses to help Lucien in the ritual. But it doesn’t make sense as Vincent is in Mystic Falls, far outside the boundaries of New Orleans so Ancestors must not have any sort of control or power over him.

2. THE VERVAIN PROBLEM

The CW

In Season 1 episode ‘Dance Back from the Grave’, Cami tells Klaus that she is on Vervain to resist compulsion. We are well aware of the negative effects of Vervain on the vampires. However, in the same episode, she could be seen feeding her blood to Marcel to heal him. Also, we have seen Marcel taking Vervain in order to increase his resistance, but it doesn’t make sense as Katherine Pierce who is an older vampire than him took Vervain for over a century and still suffered negative effects of it. Also, Marcel had all his minions on the Vervain. So it was a plot hole when Klaus bit Thierry Vanchure and another vampire while fighting the army of Marcel. Maybe the hybrid nature of Klaus could have prevented him from experiencing any negative side-effects.

1. THE HOLLOW

The CW

The Hollow story-arc contained several mistakes. We know that the only ones who can destroy Hollow are the ones who have been born from her bloodline i.e. Labonair bloodline. We saw that the blood of Hayley was able to harm the vessel which Hollow possessed. While Hollow is a powerful spirit which refuses to die even when the vessel is killed. It doesn’t make sense that Klaus contained the spirit of Hollow and his death killed Hollow. Technically, knowing the power of Hollow, the spirit of Inadu should be alive. Also, Elijah staked Klaus using the White Oak Stake, as Elijah isn’t part of the Labonair bloodline, neither the stake was dipped in the blood of a Labonair, so it shouldn’t kill Hollow.

Also, if we believe the fact that once a vessel has contained the spirit of Hollow, killing the vessel would kill the spirit then why didn’t Hope kill her own self while containing the spirit and be reborn as a vampire. Eventually, at some point she will die and become a vampire so why did Klaus sacrifice himself to kill Hollow?
