The Mikaelson Family was definitely the highlight of Season 3. There was so mystique and charisma around the Original Vampires. It was a time when Mikaelsons became more popular than the primary protagonists of the show. What we learned about the Originals was only the tip of the ocean. Therefore it was only natural that the fans wanted to learn more about these characters. The spin-off explores the history of the Mikaelson Family in depth, from their inception to their arrival in the New Orleans city where they settled and called it their home. Their subsequent exodus from New Orleans and the subsequent political and leadership change in the landscape of their city. The spin-off explored the werewolf and vampire species in much detail, introducing concepts, communities, and rituals that we didn’t know about.

We can thank the CW Network and Julie Plec for making Originals a reality, but a major credit for the spin-off coming into fruition goes to none other than the fans. Ever since the arrival of the Mikaelsons on TVD, the fans were in awe. As TVD creators took the liberty of creating new characters and storylines which weren’t a part of the LJ Smith TVD novels. Characters such as Rebekah, Elijah weren’t in the books. They started writing fan-fiction, created cool edits featuring the Originals. Some fans even came up with the concept ideas for the spin-off in their videos which used the footage from TVD. Actors such as Claire Holt, Joseph Morgan who portrayed the Mikaelson siblings were impressed by the videos they came across, they shared and retweeted them on their social media handles.
