Welcome back to Humor Nation. Very rarely it happens that an antagonist becomes more popular than the protagonist of the story and even manages to overshadow him. This was the case with Vampire Diaries where Stefan Salvatore was the main protagonist, but the arrival of Damon Salvatore on the show changed the entire landscape. Damon was introduced as the sinister older brother of Stefan who returned with a vendetta. He committed numerous acts which hurt not only Stefan, but affected the residents of the Mystic Falls too. But the fans still cheered this dark-brooding vampire and it only increased his popularity. Eventually, the writers were forced to transform him into an antihero who would find redemption and experience a change of heart.
So Take A Look At 5 Things About Damon Salvatore That Only True Fans Can Understand
5. HELLO BROTHER!
Did you know that ‘Hello Brother’ is the first and last line of Damon Salvatore on the Vampire Diaries. The Mysterious and charming vampire made his arrival in 1×01 ‘Pilot’ where he surprised his brother with the quote. The same line would be uttered by the character in the final moments of TVD 8×16 ‘I Was Feeling Epic’. These two words carry a major emotional significance for the fans. The finale summed up Damon’s character arc beautifully. Damon getting to live a long and happy life with Elena and reuniting with Stefan in the afterlife was just right and fitting. The first ‘Hello Brother’ hinted towards the animosity and rivalry of the brothers which eventually they overcome as the show progresses. The second ‘Hello Brother’ showcases how much progress they have made, how strongly their brotherly relationship is. Interestingly, the original final line of Damon Salvatore was supposed to be something hilarious, it was ‘Oh I see they have hero hair in heaven!’. This line was true to the sarcastic side of Damon, but Kevin and Julie changed it to display the emotional growth of the character.
Bonnie has a major role in changing the character of Damon, she played an integral role in Damon’s emotional growth. Their relationship was conflicting at first where Bonnie couldn’t stand Damon, but worked with him in order for the greater good. However, with the collapse of the Other Side, the two were trapped in the Prison World where they bonded and got closer. It was during their captivity in the prison World that Damon would start making pancakes for Bonnie everyday and she would tell him how much she hates that. Damon revealed that he makes Pancakes because Gail liked it. She was the girlfriend of Zach Salvatore who met her demise at the hands of Damon.
