5 Unpopular Opinions That Majority Of Supernatural Fans Don’t Agree With

4. DEAN IS THE MAIN CHARACTER

The CW

OPINION: Numerous fans believe that Dean is the main protagonist of the show. Many believe that the early seasons revolved mainly around Sam, but the focus quickly shifted to Dean by Season 4. Dean became everyone’s favorite and was featured in majority of the storylines. If you look at the number of storylines that he’s in, whether it’s the Mark of Cain, trapped in Purgatory, becoming a Demon, attraction to Darkness, Archangel Dean, and numerous other storylines too. Not just that, but Dean also shares a strong connection or relationship with nearly every recurring character. For example, Dean formed a strong relationship with Jo, Ellen, Castiel, Bobby, Kevin, Garth, Benny, Charlie, Crowley, Krissy, Adam, and was closer to Amara (Darkness). He also shared a much better relationship with Death comparatively to Sam. Whereas when you think about Sam, his only great relationships came with Ruby, Lucifer, Rowena and Amelia.

TAKE: Some of these points are valid, but the focus of Supernatural has always been the ‘Boys’. The Winchesters are the main heroes, both Sam and Dean are the primary protagonists of the show. Without Sam, there’s no point or meaning in any of the Dean’s storylines, and same applies to Dean. Both Sam and Dean are behind every cause and effect. Even if you look at their screen time, they both have a nearly equal screen time. Dean has a total of 7 Days 9 Hours 36 Minutes whereas Sam has 7 Days 5 Hours 20 Minutes which is almost same.

3. APOCALYPSE UNIVERSE WAS A BAD IDEA

5 Unpopular Opinions That Majority Of Supernatural Fans Don't Agree With
The CW

Opinion: The apocalypse world was first introduced in Season 12. It’s an alternate Universe where different versions of our beloved characters exist except there are no Sam or Dean Winchester who would have prevented the apocalypse. Through this Universe, the show found a way to bring back our favorite deceased characters such as Kevin, Bobby and Charlie. It also introduced different versions of Michael and Castiel. Some fans believe it was a cheap way to bring back the fan favorite characters without actually bringing them back. All the things that made us a fan of these characters were absent.

Take: The criticism is justified to an extent. But with the AU thing, Supernatural explored something different. This allowed them to raise the stakes. As our boys have already defeated the big baddies of the main Universe. They had to bring in something far more powerful which they did in the form of AU Michael. Also, AU provided us with an opportunity to see our deceased favorite characters again.

  1. If the show would have ended at season 5 I would never rewatch it. I constantly rewatch seasons 8-14 I’m so glad it lasted as long as it did!
