5 Ways How Supernatural Anime Is Different From Supernatural TV Show

3. THERE’S SOMETHING DIFFERENT ABOUT BOBBY!

Madhouse/WB

Bobby Singer appeared pretty late in the first season. Interestingly, his character was only created at the last moment when the actress for Missouri Moseley was unavailable. But in the anime series, the character of Bobby Singer makes appearances in the episodes where he was absent from the show. This version of Bobby Singer drastically differs from his TV counterpart in terms of its appearance. This Bobby Singer keeps himself clean-shaven and can be seen wearing a fancy suit. Well, Bobby isn’t the only character with different appearances. The hair of Mary Winchester is cut short in the anime. John Winchester’s appearance resembles more like the Vampire Benny from the TV Show. John wears a hat in the anime whereas his TV counterpart didn’t wear a hat. And finally, Jessica has red hair in the anime series.

2. BACKSTORY OF MEG MASTERS

While in the TV show, we didn’t get to learn much about the background of the character of Meg Masters. It was revealed that once Meg fell ill when her mother Maria returned from work, she learned that Meg had slipped into a coma. She prayed to God asking for help, but it was Azazel who answered the prayer. Azazel offered to save Meg but asked Maria to eliminate a friend of John Winchester named Henderson. Maria would meet her demise at the hands of Bobby. Later on, she also becomes possessed by a demon who is tasked with capturing John. The character of Jessica also gets an extended appearance in the anime series. We see how Sam and Jessica first met and how she played a role in one of the cases. John and Dean Winchester save Sam and Jessica from the wrath of a ghost while being in the shadows. All these events didn’t happen in the show.

1. DIFFERENCE IN STORYLINES

Madhouse/WB

While the anime series stays true to the live-action show. The episodes cover the storylines of the first two seasons, the episodes even share the same name. However, there are a couple of little differences in the storylines.

  • In the anime, Sam dispose off Jack using his super strength whereas Jake was shot in the TV show. Also, this Jake struggled to come to terms with Azazel’s plan, he displayed guilt for his actions.
  • The episode ‘Rising Son’ takes inspiration from the Supernatural book titled ‘Rising Son’.
  • In the episode ‘In My Time of Dying’, the reaper Tessa appears, but she takes the appearance of Mary Winchester whereas who appeared as a beautiful young woman.
  • An episode titled ‘Darkness Calling’ has been created only for the anime. Sam and Dean do not make an appearance in this episode.
