5. LOSING THEIR PARENTS
No matter whether you are a young child or an adult, life is incomplete without the parents. In case of the Sam and Dean Winchester, the first major tragedy they experienced is losing their mother when they were just kids. It wasn’t years later that they truly discovered the reason behind their mother’s demise. Their father John raised them as hunters so he could avenge the demise of his love. Even though John was an absentee father who robbed his kids of their childhood and forced his decisions upon them. But given the circumstances, John Winchester did the best he could. Eventually Sam break off from the family and went to study at Stanford, but when Dean sought his help to find their missing father, he returned to hunting. The Winchesters got a chance to meet their mom-dad again, but their tragic fate would involve losing their parents again.
4. LOSING EACH OTHER
Sam and Dean always had each other. Together they faced every major threat, every invincible foe and managed to emerge victorious. But in the long 15-year journey of the Supernatural, the brothers have lost each other on more than one occasion.
In Season 2, Sam met him demise at the hands of Jake, this forced Dean to strike a deal with the crossroad demon to bring Sam back in exchange for his soul. When Dean’s time was up, he was dragged to the hell where he spent 40 years.
In Season 5, Sam sacrificed himself by jumping into the cage while being possessed by Lucifer. Even though Sam was pulled back, but his soul remained in the captivity. When Death brought back the soul of Sam, it was tormented and badly damaged.
In Season 7 finale, Dean was pulled to purgatory along with Castiel. He has to fought against the monsters to find his way back to the living. During this time, Sam distanced himself from hunting and tried starting a new normal life.
In Season 15 finale, the boys went on a vampire hunt after defeating Chuck. A simple vampire hunt went wrong and Dean got mortally wounded. Sam went on to live a normal life, having a kid and raising him. The brothers are finally reunited in the closing moments of the episode.
