4. POWER OF COMPULSION
Elijah Mikaelson is also the first vampire ever to tap into the power of compulsion. He accessed the power unintentionally and interestingly he used the power of compulsion on a vampire. When he found out from Aurora that Klaus killed their mother Esther, he compelled Aurora to see Klaus as only a monster who doesn’t deserve any love. The compulsion planted these thoughts into her conscious memory and when she gave words to her thoughts in front of Klaus, it broke his heart. When their father Mikael found about them, Elijah again compelled Lucifer, Tristan, and Aurora in believing that they are Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah respectively. They spent a century in running until the freed themselves from the compulsion.
3. THE HEART STEALER
Elijah Mikaelson has a signature move of extracting the hearts of his enemies when disposing them. We have seen him do this several times on the screen. He has killed numerous vampires, werewolves, and witches using this feat. Elijah dispatched the vampire Thierry Vanchure by extracting his heart. He ripped out the heart of Marcel Gerard in Season 3 due to the fear of the prophecy coming true. He almost killed Klaus Mikaelson using the same move, but he spared him when Klaus revealed their family is still alive.
Elijah has an ear for the music, we have seen a piano and a violin in his house. Elijah also repaired the broken violin of Tim, love interest of Davina in Season 1. He also helped the Vampire Gia in playing the violin again after her transition. He also wears a different suit in every episode of the TVD/Originals. Elijah has died 6 times in total in TVD and The Originals. The only character who died more than him is Alaric Saltzman who died a total of 8 times. He is also the first Original to appear on TVD and to be invited in the Gilbert House in Season 2.
While Elijah is known as for keeping his word, but there have been some inconsistencies about his character. He told Agnes that no one harmed his family and survived. But still, he didn’t avenge the deaths of Kol and Finn which happened at the hands of Elena, Jeremy, and Matt. It was Klaus who tried avenging the death of his sibling. We saw him resenting Klaus on the TVD because he daggered his siblings. But we saw in the flashbacks in the Originals that that he assisted Klaus in daggering the siblings, but also didn’t object to the decision of letting their siblings stay daggered. And it’s clearly evident that Elijah favored Rebekah and Klaus over all their siblings.
While Elijah is considered a compassionate and moral character, but his understanding of the right and wrong is pretty skewed as he slaughtered numerous people in the name of his family. And yet, he chose to let go of his promise of ‘Always and Forever’ which doesn’t make sense as he would place family above everything else.
