4. THE FAIRY TALE OF RUMPELSTILTSKIN
The story of Freya’s birth and kidnapping is quite similar to the famous fairy tale of Rumpelstiltskin where an imp creature spins the straw into gold for a girl, but promises to take her firstborn child. While there are a few differences such as Dahlia promised to take the first born of every Miakelson generation and she didn’t take Freya immediately after she was born. She waited a few years until Freya was 5 years old whereas Rumpelstiltskin took the baby immediately.
3. FREYA AND KLAUS
The actress Riley Voelkel called her character Freya as a female Klaus. Even Joseph Morgan has called Freya to be a female version of Klaus. Interestingly, Klaus and Freya share numerous similarities. Both of them have blue eyes and blonde hair, they both harbored strong antagonistic feelings towards their mother Esther and even killed her. Both of them shared strong intense relationship with Mikael, while Mikael loved Freya and hated Klaus. Their children had been wanted by Dahlia, while Freya killed her unborn using poison so it could never suffer the same fate, Klaus and his fought Dahlia for Hope. Both of them find it incredibly hard to trust people easily and they would go to extreme limits to protect their family, not caring about the consequences. Freya Mikaelson named her son with Keelin after his brother Niklaus.
2. FREYA AND KATERINA
The character of Freya Mikaelson and Katherine Pierce also share numerous similarities, both of them were born in Europe and then moved to America, they both were witches and used magic to cheat death. Freya and Katerina both got pregnant out of wedlock and they lost their child in some way. They both have committed suicide and has been on the run for ages. Also, they both were immortal at one point in their lives, Katherine being a vampire, and Freya under Dahlia’s spell.
1. THE BELOVED DAUGHTER
The only child with whom Mikael shared a positive relationship was Freya, she was his most beloved and cherished child. He even named his sword ‘Rawthul’ meaning the morning sun as the hilt of the sword was golden remining him of Freya’s hair. It is believed that the lose of Freya turned Mikaelson into a cold man, it affected his relationship with his wife and other children. Mikael became distanced from Esther which ultimately caused the infidelity of Esther. Mikael would become a careless and abusive father, he coped with his grief by transforming it into anger. It was only for the safety of Freya that Mikael teamed up with Klaus, the son he hated the most.
