7. WHY DID NINA DOBREV LEFT THE SHOW?
Nina Dobrev rose to major fame by playing the role of Elena Gilbert on the Vampire Diaries. The actress portrayed the character based on LJ Smith’s novels of the same name. Nina also played the role of Katherine Pierce on the show, a doppelganger of Elena Gilbert. TVD came out in the year 2009 and ran successfully for eight years. Nina’s character Elena is recovering from a traumatic accident in which she lost both her parents, she falls in love with a vampire named Stefan Salvatore. Soon his brother, Damon Salvatore, enters into the picture and Elena finds herself drawn to him. There’s an epic love triangle which is the highlight of the show.
In 2015, it was announced that Nina would be leaving the show after Season 6 finale. Many fans speculated that it’s because Nina Dobrev is not getting along with her co-star and ex-boyfriend Ian Somerhalder who played the role of Damon on the show. There were all sorts of rumors. But the actress took it to Instagram to explain her decision. Nina felt that her character Elena’s journey had finally come to an end. She wanted Elena Gilbert’s journey to be a six-season adventure and she played all sorts of different characters such as a human, a vampire, an immortal doppelganger. Her character was killed and resurrected, cursed and tortured, been through all kinds of wild adventures. She also mentioned that she wanted to try her hands at something different, she didn’t want to play the character of a teenager anymore, she wanted to experiment with adult roles in movies with meaningful stories.
