Subramanian is a Socialist, Economist as well as Indian Politician who served as a nominated member of parliament in Rajya Sabha and he was served as the member of Janta party and also served as the member of Planning Commission of India and also he was the Cabinet Minister in the Chandra Shekhar Azad Government.

1. Subramanian Swamy was born in Mylapore, Chennai on Sept 15, 1939. His father, Sitaram Subramanian was at a one-time director of the Central Statistical Institute and his mother Padmavathi was a homemaker and he has one younger brother as well as two elder sisters.

2. Swamy graduated in Mathematics from the prestigious Hindu College in B.A ( Hon.) and finished his 3rd year in the Delhi University and after that from Delhi, the seat of power, Swami moved to Kolkata for PG studies and enrolled at Indian Statistical Institute (ISI).

3. The ISI at that time was headed by PC Mahalanobis who happened to be a professional rival of Swamy’s father. So when Mahalanobis learned about Swamy, he began to get lower grades. Mahalanobis was such a kind of person whom nobody would want to develop animosity ( at least not someone who are studying at his institute ).

4. Swamy got a recommendation for Harvard after demonstrated his research ability from Hendrik S Houthakker, the American economist who was the referee for the paper published in Econometrica. Later, at 24 Swamy completed his Ph.D. from Harvard and backed by a full Rockefeller scholarship in two and a half years.
