Welcome back to Humor Nation. TVD is a world full of supernatural creatures such as vampires, werewolves, and witches. While we were introduced to the vampires in the beginning of the episode. Stefan and Damon are examples of the vampire species. In the second season, we saw another kind of vampire, the extremely powerful ones known as the Originals. They are the oldest, powerful, and extremely strong vampires in the TVD Universe. They are the progenitors of the vampire race. The term ‘Originals’ was introduced by Rose-Marie who revealed their existence to Damon, Stefan and Elena in the second season. The term Originals is referred to the Mikaelson Family. But the term has been expand to include the upgraded Original and the Enhanced Original vampires who were created using a modified spell.

There are various differences between an Original and normal vampire. Note that the Originals were created using a spell by Esther who transformed her family into the Original Vampires to protect themselves. All other vampires have been derived from the Originals, when a person dies with vampire blood in their system they return back to life. But in order to complete their transition they must drink blood. Once transformed into vampires, the change is irreversible unless one takes a cure. Normal vampires can be killed using a normal stake or heart extraction whereas the Originals are practically indestructible. They cannot be killed using the normal stakes, the only thing that can kill them is the White Oak Stake.
Another thing that can kill them is the venom of the Upgraded Original vampire. However, one can neutralize an Original vampire using the the dark objects such as the Cursed Stakes or using spells. An Upgraded Original Vampire was created when Lucien took the serum which was prepared by reverse engineering the original vampire spell of Esther. The serum contained the venom of the seven werewolf bloodlines along with Freya’s blood. The spell was cast on the Hallowed Ground AKA Mystic Falls.
