Welcome to Humor Nation. Chhapaak featuring Deepika Padukone who plays the role of the acid survivor Laxmi Agarwal will be released on 10 January 2020. The trailer of the film has been released on YouTube by Fox Star Studios. The film is directed by Meghna Gulzar and it tells the story of a girl named Malti whose character takes inspiration from the real-life of acid survivor Laxmi Agarwal. The film also stars Vikrant Massey who plays the role of a social activist named Amol, Amol’s character takes inspiration from Alox Dixit, a social activist who married Laxmi Agarwal. Deepika Padukone announced on her Twitter on 24 December 2018 about the film. The shooting of the film started on 25 March 2019 and it was wrapped on 4 June 2019.
Laxmi Agarwal was only 15 years old when she was attacked by a 32 years old Gudda in 2005. Guddu made advances towards her, but she rejected and this enraged him. Guddu aka Nadeem Khan along with his two friends attacked Laxmi with Acid near Tughlaq Road in New Delhi in 2005. She filed a PIL in 2006 which sought to frame a new law to deal with acid attacks.
Coming from a middle-class family and being attacked at a small age of 15, Laxmi didn’t let this stop her from living her life. She started her career as a campaigner and started speaking on the Acid Attacks. The soon made her the voice of the Acid Survivors all across the world. It was due to the efforts of Laxmi that the Supreme Court created new restrictions on the acid sale. There are new regulations under which acid cannot be sold to anyone below 18 years old. Also, one is required to present a photo identity card when buying an acid.
