When they were studying in the second grade, Archie was weak at studies, he was at the risk of failing the academic year. Betty wanted Archie to be with her in the same class decided to tuition him to help him with the studies. With the efforts of Betty, Archie passed the year. He was so grateful to Betty that he proposed her, but since they were too young at that time so Betty turned him down. She suggested him to propose her once they both are 18 years old.

Betty Cooper has been in love with Archie since then. But Archie didn’t reciprocate the same way, he had no romantic relationships for her. When Veronica Lodge arrived in Riverdale, Archie fell for her at the first sight. Veronica became besties with Betty, she came to know that Betty is head over heels for Archie so she didn’t make a move on Archie. But at Cheryl’s house party, while playing Seven Minutes in Heaven, Veronica and Archie ended up kissing. Betty becomes frustrated with what transpired, she leaves Cheryl’s house. The relationship between Archie and Betty became strained for a while. But they worked out their issues and became friends again. Later, Betty turned her attention to Jughead and they both developed a romantic relationship.
In Season 2, both of them worked together in uncovering the true identity of the Black Hood. They shared a moment together in the car where they end up kissing each other. But their moment was viewed by Cheryl who makes things complicated by informing Jughead about their shared kiss. In Season 4, when Archie had a fight with Veronica and Betty got into a conflict with Jughead, they reminisce their older memories together in a garage and ended up kissing again. However, they didn’t want to harm their partners so they decide to break off their new emerging romantic relationship.
In Season 5, both Archie and Betty have ended their relationships with their significant other. Riverdale takes a seven year time gap, every character go their separate ways.
