3. NINA PREFERRED KATHERINE
Nina Dobrev revealed that she enjoyed playing Katherine more than Elena. She worked really hard to give both the characters an entirely contrasting personality so both of them can be distinguished easily. She prepared herself mentally while playing either character, she would practice in front of the mirror, modulate her voice to bring in little variations to suit the characters. While playing Katherine, the actress would use a wig to get the curly hair which would save her time in hair styling.
2. VAMPIRE TRANSITION
If you have read the Vampire Diaries novels then you must know very well that Elena Gilbert is a vampire in the books. She is turned quite early in the book. However, the vampire transformation of the character on show came pretty late. But the creators had planned her vampire transition pretty early, but realized it would feel rushed and they won’t to tell the story of the teenage girl. The writers almost turned her into a vampire in the Season 2 finale, but the idea was later changed. Plec felt again it was too early, ultimately the transition happened in the Season 3 finale episode ‘The Departed’.

The casting for the main characters in TVD wasn’t an easy task. The showrunners and producers went through plenty of multiple round auditions to finalize the right actors. Various personalities and actors were approached for the role of Elena Gilbert. Popular actors such as Ashley Tisdale, Ashlee Simpson were given the opportunity, but it didn’t happen.
