The Petrova Doppelganger bloodline started with Amara, a doppelganger would show up in a span of centuries. In TVD, we have seen three doppelgangers of the Petrova bloodline namely Tatia, Katherine, and Amara.

TATIA & ELENA SIMILARITIES
Tatia is the first doppelganger who was born in the New World (Mystic Falls) and Elena is the last whereas their progenitor Amara took birth in Greece and Katherine was born in Bulgaria. She is the only Petrova doppelganger who has made an appearance on the Originals. Interestingly, it was the blood of Tatia which Esther used to transform her children & Mikael into the Original Vampires as well as to place the Hybrid Curse on her son Nikklaus.
Very interestingly, it was the blood of Elena Gilbert which was used to lift up the werewolf curse which made Klaus the first Original Hybrid, and Esther also utilized the blood of Elena to turn Alaric into an Enhanced Original with the purpose of hunting Klaus. In the Originals Red Door, Tatia first appeared and we learn that she is a widow. There’s a popular theory that Tatia’s husband was a Salvatore doppelganger, but it was never confirmed as her husband never appeared on the screen. Interestingly, both Tatia and Elena have met their demise at the hands of a Mikaelson sibling.

It was once believed that the Petrova Doppelgangers are born at every 500-year interval. But according to a comment by the witch Qetsiyah in the episode ‘Original Sin’, the Petrova & Salvatore doppelgangers are born in every century. They are born as humans with their blood containing magic. Qetsiyah revealed that she has forever seen the Silas and Amara doppelgangers meet and fall in love with each other every century. If you believe that then there must be a doppelganger born in every century. The other theory says that the doppelgangers are born at an interval of every 500 years then there must be total four doppelgangers of Amara. One doppelganger born in 5th century, Tatia born in 10th century, Katerina born in 15th century, and finally Elena in 20th century. However, it was later confirmed that the first Petrova doppelganger is Tatia.
