While both shows are set in the same universe, their stories are interlinked, it’s no surprise that their paths were bound to cross. Interestingly, there are a couple of crossovers between both shows. There have been a total number of 14 crossover episodes between TVD & The Originals. Vampire Diaries featured 2 crossover episodes whereas Originals had a total number of 12 episodes. Caroline Forbes has the most number of appearances in the crossover episodes whereas Alaric Saltzman is the next character to have the second most appearances. The Originals Season 3 saw the arrival of Stefan Salvatore, this crossover episode starts from the events of TVD Season 7 episode where Klaus rescues Stefan from the huntress Rayna. For the sake of Caroline, he takes Stefan to New Orleans where Freya uses her magic to stop Rayne from tracking down Stefan. Stefan fights alongside the Mikaelsons to save his sideline. Even though Klaus’ sireline is disconnected courtesy of Davina, he is saved.
2. BOOKS
Many fans are well aware that the Vampire Diaries are based on novels of the same name. The show has made several changes to the characters, their appearances, and the storylines. In the books Elena has blue eyes and blonde hair color, she is an angel! Whereas in the show, Elena has brown hair color, and she is a human who is a Petrova doppelganger. The storyline of the Mikaelson siblings, the Petrovas, and the Heretics is not present in the books. When it comes to the Originals which is based on the Mikaelsons who were introduced in TVD Seasons 2 &3. But the Mikaelson family doesn’t exist in the TVD books. Interestingly, there’s the Originals novel series which is written by Julie Plec. These books revolve around the adventures of the notorious Mikaelson Family in New Orleans, their past, and family dynamics. There are three novels titled ‘The Rise’, ‘The Loss’, and ‘The Resurrection’ which were released in 2015.
1. TIMELINE
The story of Vampire Diaries starts in September 2009 and it ended in March 2018, the show ran for eight seasons. We have excluded the flashbacks of Silas, Sybil, and others taking place in the 1st century, 8th century, and other different time periods. Whereas if we talk about the timeline of the Originals, it takes place at some point in 2011 and the show lasts until the year 2026. Thus Originals in its five seasons spreads across a timeline of 14 years.
