Welcome to Humor Nation. The comparisons between Vampire Diaries and its spin-offs are endless. The success of Vampire Diaries can be credited to several factors. The show came at the right moment, a time when the Vampire culture was relevant and popular again due to Twilight. Of course, at the time when the show first started airing, it was called a bootleg version of Twilight. But as the story progressed, it became crystal clear that this is something unique and entirely different from Twilight in terms of its characters, plot elements, settings, and direction.
So Let’s Take A Look At 6 Reasons Why The Vampire Diaries Is Better Than The Originals
6. THE SUPERMAN PROBLEM
One edge that Vampire Diaries has over the Originals is its protagonists and antagonists. The main characters of Vampire Diaries are the Salvatores who are normal vampires. Even though vampires are immortals, but they are no match to an Original vampire or to a powerful witch, even a werewolf bite can cause their demise. Whereas ‘The Originals’ featured the Mikaelsons as leads, they are virtually invincible. They have very few weaknesses such as White Oak Stake which isn’t very accessible so it was a tough job introducing a convincing villain whereas TVD wasn’t plagued with this problem. When your central characters are humans and vampires, anybody with more power would make a decent villain. It’s no surprise that the rogue gallery of TVD is far more diverse than Originals.
5. CONNECTING WITH THE AUDIENCE
The comparison of ratings of TVD and Originals clearly proves why Vampire Diaries has been a greater hit with the fans. The reason for its high ratings and popularity is its audience demographics, the show instantly clicked majorly with the young audiences who contributed greatly to the viewership. When the show started, the main characters are shown to be studying in college, dealing with the struggles of young adult life such as relationships, and friendships. Therefore numerous fans were able to relate to it. The Originals is more mature and serious, the main characters are also pretty old. It doesn’t mean that it wasn’t a hit, but it couldn’t appeal much to diverse audiences due to its setting, pacing, and themes.
4. LOVE STORY
At its heart, Vampire Diaries is one epic love story. The love triangle is what accelerated the show and pushed it to a different stratosphere. It kept the viewers captivated and it is no surprise that with the departure of Nina Dobrev, the focus of the show shifted more to the brotherly relationship of Salvatores and other storylines which were entertaining, but TVD vibe that we experience from Season 1-6 was no longer there. It’s not just the Salvatore-Elena relationship, several other romantic relationships pushed the show. Nearly every character was featured in a romantic relationship which helped the character to grow. Even though Originals too featured romantic relationships, but it was not the main focus, it was the secondary focus of the show. No wonder many viewers felt robbed of all the wonderful things that could have been done with the ships such as Haylijah, Klamille, and Rebel.
