Bela was supposed to be a regular and wouldn’t be a love interest of the boys. The writers also crafted the character of Bela entirely different from Ruby, both characters having different motivations and goals. 1. KATIE CASSIDY (AUDITIONED FOR BELA TALBOT & GOT RUBY’S ROLE)

The CW

The creator of Ruby was created by the writers to present the idea that not all demons are evil, some of them can be extremely useful. However, the writers had planned from the starting that Ruby would somehow affect the relationship of Sam and Dean. Eventually, she did create a rift between the brothers in Season 4. Kripke and team was careful not to overdo with Bela and Ruby by introducing them frequently. Katie Cassidy auditioned for the part of the hunter Bela Talbot, but she was offered the role of Ruby. Both Lauren and Ruby trained in the martial arts so they both could do their fight and action scenes without needing a stunt double.
