The actor’s mother Saeeda Begum, who was 95 years old had passed away only four days earlier before his passing. The actor couldn’t even attend her last rites due to his own condition. Irrfan Khan was struggling for his life and in those final moments in the ICU he told his wife Sutapa,

“Amma Yahin Hain, Mujhe Lene Aai Hain. She is here in my room, mujhe lene aaye hai, dekho baithi hai mere paas.”
