Welcome back to Humor Nation. Over the course of eight seasons, The Vampire Diaries took us on an adventurous ride full of entertaining and heart-wrenching moments. It made us laugh and it made us cry, the journey is unforgettable. We became real close to the characters and especially the actors who portrayed them. The actors brought the characters to the life, gave them certain mannerisms and personalities to make them authentic and stand out. It’s nearly impossible to imagine any other actor playing these characters. Could you imagine someone other than Ian Somerhalder as Damon? Or someone other than Paul Wesley as Stefan? While it might sound absurd now, but there was a time when certain actors were pretty close to losing their roles on the Vampire Diaries.
So Take A Look At Vampire Diaries Actors Who Were Almost Rejected/Turned Down By The Show Creators
4. DANIEL GILLIES
Elijah Mikaelson is a pretty significant character, the first Mikaelson sibling to be introduced on the show. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that without Elijah Mikaelson, there wouldn’t be no Originals. He’s the glue that tied the show together. But did you know there was a time when Daniel Gillies almost lost the role of Elijah Mikaelson. The actor was told that the creators and producers of TVD are looking for an older actor to portray Elijah. Even though his audition went pretty great. Even the creators told him that he did an amazing job. But a few weeks later, Daniel was informed that the creators decided to go with a younger Elijah. Daniel’s brought a certain style and swag to the character, his accent and body language made the character stand out.
3. NINA DOBREV
The biggest highlight reel of Nina Dobrev’s career is her work on the Vampire Diaries. His roles of the Petrova Doppelgangers took her career to the new heights and made her a global star. But you’d be surprised to know that Nina actually bombed her first audition, it was a total disaster. She tanked the audition to the extent that the show creators and the producers completely forgot about her. She wasn’t anywhere in the conversation for the role of Elena Gilbert.
The show creator Julie Plec revealed that they don’t even remember Nina’s first audition, this goes to show how bad and unforgettable it was. Nina didn’t hear anything back from the casting director. After waiting for a couple of weeks and not hearing anything back, the actress took the matter in her hands and recorded a tape for the audition. It was her tape that earned the actress a second chance and she knocked it out of the park.
