It all started over 1000 years ago when the Mikaelson family heard about a Mystical Land where life would be much better and the occupants would be blessed with strength and speed. They moved to this land, but when the family’s youngest child was killed, Esther Mikaelson created a superior race known as the Originals, from which all the vampires spawned. After a while, the Originals fled this place. Later, this magical place was discovered centuries later by the Founding Families who then named it Mystic Falls.

This place is the hotbed of all kinds of Supernatural events. There is no effect of non-traditional magic, as a result of which the magical artifacts and majority of the Supernatural species would have no effect. The Vampire Diaries introduces us to Mystic Falls in Season 1, we didn’t know much about this town, the history of it is revealed later as the show progresses. There are so many reasons why Mystic Falls is so unique and special. This is the birthplace of the Originals, the werewolves resided here for thousand years. It is also the birthplace of two of the Petrova doppelgangers.
The Originals later founded a city which became known to be as New Orleans. They were in charge of this city until 1919, then they were forced to flee the town due to the terror of their father, Mikael. In their absence, Marcel took the possession of the city and became its ruler. Later, the Mikaelsons make their return to the city and try to reclaim their city.
