Welcome back to Humor Nation. The success of Vampire Diaries led to the inception of the Originals. Both shows are set in the same Universe and numerous characters from TVD have made an appearance on the Originals. The fans of both the shows continuously debate on the various internet platforms claiming their show is much superior. Both the show did great numbers, while TVD lasted for eight long seasons, Originals wrapped up its story in five seasons. The focus of the Vampire Diaries is on Elena and the Salvatores whereas Originals centered around the Mikaelson family. How can we compare these shows objectively and not let our inner fan influence the comparison. We could certainly look at what each show did better than the other one.
When it comes to Vampire Diaries, the characters are either good or bad. Their motivations were pretty clear and the viewers could easily predict what they would do. Their nature was same for the most time. Whereas the characters on the Originals sat on the fence for the most part. The characters would do despicable acts at one moment and then would make up for their actions by doing something great. Their motivations varied from time to time, their allegiance also changed. Take for example, Davina, in the beginning she was the secret weapon of the Marcel and created plenty of problems for the Mikaelsons. But as the show went on, she started acting on her own even if it meant going against Marcel. Vincent is another character who always did what he believed was for the greater good.
While one of the biggest flaws of Originals is its slow pace. Sometimes it would take few episodes for something to happen and the viewer would just wait and wait. Originals had its shocking moments, but it’s nowhere compared to the Vampire Diaries which delivered plenty of action in every episode. Sometimes too much content overwhelmed the viewers. A big flaw of TVD was its content which mostly consisted of the high school drama and romantic relationships. But when it came to Originals, it was all serious business. The relationships were mature and the drama created a real sense of tension.
