So Let’s Take A Look At 5 Unknown Strange Facts About Ireland!
5. The Irish Invented Halloween
Halloween traces its origins back to the Gaelic festival of saw wit. A harvest festival held on the 31st of October to mark the end of summer. According to Irish mythology it was also the time when the doorways to the Other world opened up. While simultaneously looking over their shoulders four little leprechauns become crawling over the shadows or dark caves.
4. Ireland Has No Snakes
They don’t got no snakes! You may have heard the story of st. Patrick chasing all those slithering snakes off the Emerald Isle, while it isn’t true. Due to its isolation from the European mainland Ireland lacks several species common elsewhere in Europe; such as moles weasels pull cats and even roe deer. What the hell is a road here anyway! The reason well the Ice Age millions of years ago and killed things like this up and then seeing as it’s an island I guess no one’s bothered to pack one in their luggage to bring it over.
3. Saint Patrick Isn’t Irish
St. Patrick himself, he’s like the only person who is an Irish. The patron saint of Ireland who has a global holiday of binge drinking named after him, he was a Roman man, born in Britain. Legend has it that he was kidnapped in Britain and brought to Ireland where he was a slave who had to herd some sheep.
2. Leprechauns Are Real
The real leprechauns are actually in fact the offspring of fairies. These offspring were deemed defective kids, it’s all because of their disposition and deformed shaped. However another fact is that there are no female leprechauns and they’re depicted a whole lot less charming than the guy we see on the Box of cereal. Initially they were depicted as old grumpy men who loved to fix a shoe and they were really greedy with their pot of gold.
1. Irish People Are All Over The World
There are more Irish people living outside of Ireland than in it. It is estimated that over 80 million people of Irish descent live outside Ireland. 34 million alone or in the United States, but on top of that there is Australia, there’s the United Kingdom, there’s Canada, we got Argentina, you got Mexico, you got New Zealand there’s South Africa. There also all over Europe, there’s the population of Irish people 14 times that of the population of Ireland and that’s if you include Northern Ireland. Yeah the whole lot of Irish people everywhere they breed like rabbits and of all these people all over the world three million of them hold on to their Irish citizenship.
