Welcome back to Humor Nation. The Men of Letters made their first appearance in Season 8 of the show. This organization consists of people who possess the knowledge and understanding of the Supernatural. Some describe them as the ‘preceptors’ and they are skilled in various arts. However, the secrets remain only among a few. Although, the organization is called ‘Men of Letters’, but the members are both men and women. The members of this organization are humans who possessed such an in-depth understanding of the Supernatural which was beyond that of the hunters. Not only were they aware about the magic and witchcraft, but they were also able to execute powerful spells such as time traveling and exorcising demons. In Season 8, Henry Winchester used a spell to time travel and entered in the timeline of Sam and Dean Winchester. The boys learned that Henry Winchester didn’t leave John on purpose.
Men of Letters always kept a tab on all the ‘Supernatural’ happenings. They were aware about the angels whereas hunters knew nothing about the existence of angels until the apocalypse. While Men of Letters were first introduced in Season 8 when we learned that Sam and Dean’s grandfather Henry Winchester was a member of this order, but he would meet a tragic fate at the hands of Abaddon. He passed away in the hands of his grandchildren who would inherit his legacy. After locating the bunker which once served as the headquarter of the organization, Winchesters would start living there. Their bunker is one of the safest places on the earth, it is protected against most sorts of evil.
But it was the Supernatural spin-off ‘The Winchesters’ which shed more light on the history of the organization. We learned that Men of Letters were the ones who stood in the way of Akrida and prevented it from taking over the world. Akrida is one of the most powerful villains in the Supernatural Universe which could have caused the destruction of multiple worlds.
They utilized the dark magic and created a Monster Box which could be used to destroy Supernatural beings such as demons and monsters. If only Sam and Dean could have taken the help of this box to entrap the archangels. They built an immense library of knowledge of the witchcraft. Their knowledge has been preserved in the bunker. The British Men of Letters is a branch of the organization. They are so efficient with dealing with Supernatural threats that they have developed a mechanism which eliminates any monster within 40 minutes once identified. This is the reason why Britain didn’t witness any casualty due to the Supernatural since 1965.
