Daniel was born and raised in Canada to parents who came from New Zealand. The actor was born into a family which has a strong medical background. Daniel’s great-great grandfather was Sir Harold Gillies who is known to be the father of modern plastic surgery, an acclaimed ENT surgeon. His mother is a nurse and father an experienced pediatrician. There was a pressure on him to pursue a career in the medical field, but the actor gravitated towards acting as he wasn’t pretty good at the academics. He moved to Australia in 2001 to search for new opportunities to build his career. After not finding success, he went to Canada for 2 months where while looking for acting opportunities, he worked as a dishwasher and a waiter. He would eventually move to Los Angeles where he found his first big break.

Phoebe Tonkin who played the character of an independent and courageous woman named Hayley in the TVD Universe. The actress launched a health website titled ‘Your Zen Life’ with her fellow Australian actress friend Teresa Palmer. However, due to her work and other projects, she stepped down. In 2020, she launched her sustainable clothing brand called ‘Lesjour’. This loungewear brand is designed and manufactured using sustainable fabric called EcoVero which is created from purified cellulose made out of the wood pulp and then it goes through various specialized processing. EcoVero is biodegradable and easy to recycle. For her clothing brand, the actress moved to LA from New York. Phoebe revealed in an interview that she has been planning the clothing brand for more than two years. She launched it during the pandemic as her acting job was severely affected.
