Werewolves are a species of shapeshifting creatures who are humans, but can transform into large, hostile, aggressive beasts on the night of full moon.

6. THEIR ORIGIN
In Season 4 of the Originals, the origins of the werewolves were revealed. There was once a powerful witch named Inadu who later became ‘The Hollow’. Inadu was supposed to be the symbol of prosperity for the tribes. But when she was born, she craved power and ended up killing people of her own tribe. The tribe members decided to sacrifice Inadu, on a night of full moon, she was hunted by the wolves.
A dying Inadu cursed the members of her tribe who were responsible for her death. This would result in them being forced to shapeshift into the wolves on the night of a full moon and the future werewolves would be born as humans with a werewolf gene, but when they’d kill someone, the curse would be triggered. Inadu’s curse caused her mother to become the first werewolf in 500 A.D. She’s also the first member of the Crescent Wolf Pack.
5. FIRST PREGNANT WEREWOLF
Hayley Marshall is the first pregnant werewolf in the TVD Universe. She helped Tyler in breaking his sirebond for her own personal motive. Klaus thought she was Tyler’s fling, but she was secretly working for Shane. Hayley returned to Mystic Falls in ‘Bring It On’ where she tried obtaining information about Katherine from Klaus, and they end up making love. Since Klaus was born a werewolf and in Season 2 he has lifted his hybrid curse, he was able to procreate. This loophole allowed them to conceive a miracle. Hayley was also one of the last surviving members of the prestigious Labonair clan.
4. HOW VAMPIRES VS WEREWOLVES RIVALRY STARTED
When the youngest Mikaelson sibling Henrik and Klaus broke the rule of their village and went to watch the wolves transform on a full moon, Henrik was mauled by the wolves. This prompted Mikael to force Esther to use her magic to turn her children into supernatural beings to they could protect themselves. This resulted in the birth of the Originals who are superior to the werewolves. However, they were compelled by the urge to kill and feed on the blood of the humans. The Vampire Klaus made his first human kill and this triggered his werewolf gene. Mikael found out about the infidelity of Esther and it enraged him. A furious Mikael slaughtered the entire pack of Ansel who was responsible for the demise of Henrik. He also killed the remaining werewolves which started a war between vampires and werewolves that persists to the present age.
