While the Vampire Diaries witnessed numerous romance and love stories that blossomed throughout the show, but the show isn’t all about romantic tales, it featured numerous friendships too. While many feel that the ending of the Vampire Diaries was satisfying, but some fans aren’t too pleased with the show ended. They felt that certain characters deserved a much better ending especially the character of Stefan Salvatore who is one of the main protagonists of the show.
Throughout the eight seasons of the show, we witnessed a transformation in numerous characters which is an indication of good writing. Some characters changed for better while some changed for worse, they ended up becoming too self absorbed that fans lost their interest in them. The character of Caroline Forbes experienced a significant character development. When she show started, we saw her as an insecure and jealous girl who felt like she was always living in the shadow of Elena Gilbert. Her motivation to do things was to up Elena at every point. But after turning into a vampire, her personality slowly started changing.
After being manipulated by Damon and experiencing numerous adversities. Caroline started developing resilience. She became stronger and found confidence in herself. We also saw her displaying helping behavior towards others and going out of her way by making sacrifices for the greater good. She saved the lives of the Alaric’s twins and became their mother. Even she knew Stefan didn’t completely stopped loving Elena, she kept loving him and gave him numerous chances. In the end, she became a leader and a beacon of hope for all the Supernaturally gifted people.

Another character is Damon Salvatore who started off as the villain, but had undergone a drastic and positive transformation. Damon returned to make his brother’s life miserable and exact revenge, but as the story progressed, the fans developed a sympathy for him after learning his motivations and the events that had happened to him. He returned to rescue Katherine from the tomb, but he learned that Katherine was never in the tomb. When Katherine expressed that she never learned Damon, it really broke him, but he was saved by the affection of Elena, doppelganger of Katherine.
