Welcome back to Humor Nation. In the universe of the Vampire Diaries, the term ‘Hybrid’ is used to refer to a species of supernatural beings which are a blend or mix of two different species. Hybrid is mainly referred to a creature that is a cross between a vampire and a werewolf. For example, Klaus Mikaelson after becoming a hybrid used it to turn werewolves such as Tyler Lockwood into hybrids. Although the vampire-werewolf hybrids are the most commonly appearing hybrids, but there have been other kind too, such as the witch-vampire hybrid.
Hybrids in the TVD Universe are very powerful and they possess numerous abilities and powers such as being immortal which is something due to the vampirism. Secondly, they possess extreme strength and quick speed of both vampire and werewolves, making them superior to a vampire or werewolf alone. As vampires cannot walk in the daylight without a day light ring. They are a the risk of being burned due to the UV rays, but due to the werewolf heritage, they are able to walk into the sunlight during the day time while being immune to it. Similarly, werewolves who have to experience pain of the transformation are now easily able to control their transformation while also having access to the vampiric abilities.
Whoever turns other werewolves into hybrids, becomes their master through the sire bond. The hybrids are bound to their master and they are loyal to his every command. This is what we have witnessed when Klaus Mikaelson turned Tyler into hybrid and Tyler was compelled to obey every command. In the Vampire Diaries Universe, the character of Original Vampire Klaus Mikaelson was the first hybrid. He would create a pack of hybrids by turning werewolves into hybrids. The character of Hybrids brought a new mythology to the TVD Universe. Hybrids explored the dual nature of both vampires and werewolves while also dealing with issues of loyalty and conflict among the two supernatural factions. Klaus was born a werewolf, but his mother Esther’s spell turned him into an Original Vampire, thus an Original Vampire-Werewolf hybrid.
Hayley Marshall was also born a werewolf, but becoming pregnant with the child of Klaus, she was transformed into a hybrid through the blood of Hope, due to her dual nature, she possesses the abilities of both the species. Hope Mikaelson is not just a hybrid, but a tribrid who is a blend of three Supernatural species; vampire, werewolf, and a witch. Her vampire & werewolf sides came from her parents (Klaus & Hayley) whereas the witch side became from the Mikaelson bloodline. The Heretics such as Mary, Nore and Valerie are vampire-witch hybrids. They were born as special witches known as Siphoner who didn’t have magic of their own, but they channel it from other sources. Lily transformed them all into vampires, thus making them the hybrids.
