While the show Supernatural revolves around beings such as angels, demons, vampires, witches, and more, all these entities possess different types of powers and abilities. Many of these Supernatural creatures cause chaos and problems for humans. Hunters like Sam and Dean Winchester are the ones who keep such Supernatural beings at bay and protect ordinary people. They have managed to prevent the apocalypse and battle Supernatural threats every day. Sam and Dean Winchester aren’t the only hunters in the SPN Universe; we have seen numerous hunters in the fifteen seasons who fought alongside the Winchesters. Nobody is born a hunter; it takes knowledge and skills acquired over time for a normal person to become a hunter.

We have seen ordinary humans such as Jody Mills, who, after discovering the existence of the Supernatural, transformed into a hunter. A hunter dedicates their life to protecting others from Supernatural beings. Often, a person ends up becoming a hunter after experiencing a personal tragedy at the hands of the Supernatural, as in the case of Bobby Singer, who lost his wife after a demonic possession. Similarly, John also lost Mary due to the yellow-eyed demon, compelling them to learn the art of hunting.
While not all hunters are competent, such as the Ghostfacers, who are also technically hunters specializing in the hunting of ‘ghosts’, they are pretty useless as they rely mainly on technology and gadgets to investigate paranormal activity, lacking the skills and real courage when confronted with a real threat. Charlie Bradbury was a computer expert working for Roman Enterprises, where she learned the truth of the Leviathans. After pairing with Dorothy Baum and battling the Wicked Witch in the Land of Oz, Charlie became a certified hunter who sadly met a tragic fate in Season 10.
Not all hunters are good at heart and work towards the welfare of others. Some hunters, like Gordon Walker, are too blinded by their self-interest, ending up doing more harm than good. Gordon was a vampire hunter obsessed with hunting them regardless of whether the vampire was causing harm to others or not. As there are many Supernatural beings who are inherently good and live a quiet life.
Jody Mills isn’t the only law enforcement officer who ended up becoming a hunter, Donna Hanscum who first appeared in Season 9 also learned about the existence of monsters and then underwent the hunter’s training.
