5. TREATMENT OF CAROLINE FORBES
Even though many fans would defend the actions of Damon Salvatore as nobody is truly a saint on TVD. But some of the actions of Damon are truly unredeemable. This the case of his treatment of Caroline. He compelled the poor Caroline to do his bidding, he even fed on her, and due to compulsion she ended up sleeping with him. This certainly crosses all the limits. Even though Damon didn’t directly compel Caroline to do all things, but his compulsion changed the personality of Caroline, made her do things which she wouldn’t in the right frame of mind.
4. VICTIMS AT EVERY CORNER
Damon Salvatore never really cared about all the victims that he left in the path. When he arrived in Mystic Falls, he started feeding on the carefree, ordinary citizens of the Mystic Falls. Vicki Donovan also ended up becoming a victim of Damon’s mischief. He had no logical reason to turn Vicki into a vampire, but he did it anyway for fun. This claimed the life of Vicki. His atrocities didn’t stop there, he would hurt Stefan again by taking the life of Lexi Branson. He painted Lexi as the evil vampire responsible for the vampire attacks and saved himself from the Founder’s Council. These weren’t the only victims, the list goes on and on. From snapping the neck of Jeremy just because he couldn’t deal with the rejection of Elena to harming Zach Salvatore & his family.
3. VAMPIRIC HYPOCRICY
Damon promised Stefan an eternity of misery all because Stefan is the reason why he became a vampire. But didn’t Damon always want to be a vampire for Katherine? He said that he didn’t want to because Katherine is gone. But even after becoming a vampire, he enjoys it and totally loves it. Damon was fascinated with the idea of being one even when he was a human. He was drawn to the darkness side, intrigued by Katherine. As we all know, vampirism amplifies the core personality of a person. Whereas in case of Stefan, he always felt remorse and guilty when he harmed any innocent. He was forced to turn off his humanity, becoming a Ripper to process it. But Damon never had that problem. Also, he made the most of being a vampire, living his life to the fullest, partying around the world.
2. IT ALL LEADS BACK TO HIM
Let’s try to link certain events. If you really observe things, you’ll find out that Katherine discovered Elena mainly because of Damon. Think about it. Damon returned to Mystic Falls to free Katherine and ended up releasing the tomb vampires. Katherine returned back to deal with the tomb vampires in order to conceal his secret. Secondly, Isobel was turned into a vampire by Damon, she ended up researching the vampire lore and stuff, and it’s likely she managed to track down Katherine through Damon. And finally, had Damon respected Elena’s choice of taking the elixir of Elijah, she would have been safe. But he fed Elena his blood so she could be resurrected as a vampire. He would then try to redo this by freeing Caroline and Tyler to delay the ritual. Eventually Jenna is turned into a vampire and meets her demise. John sacrifices himself to bring back Elena.
1. AN ANTIHERO
One thing about Damon is that he never said that he’s the good guy. This has been clear right from the beginning. Even Ian Somerhalder hated the idea of Damon being turned into a good guy. Damon owned up to all his mistakes and there’s a possibility that if given a chance he would do the same things over again. We also cannot paint him as a pure evil because there have been numerous moments where he showcased his good heart and placed himself in danger to save others. What do you guys think? Is he a hero or a villain?
