Elena Gilbert is the only character in the entire TVD Universe who died having vampire blood in her system, but woke up as a human. Klaus needed a human Petrova in the Hybrid Ritual Sacrifice. As Elena was the only human Petrova alive in the existence, Klaus forced her to participate in the ritual. He drank the blood of loss and she died in front of Stefan Salvatore.
