But his strategy paved the path for the release of Lucifer, preparing Sam as the vessel for Lucifer and setting the events of apocalypse in motion. When Winchesters managed to prevent the apocalypse and send Lucifer back to the cage. Crowley took advantage of the vacuum and ascended to the throne of Hell. He struck a deal with Ramiel who showed no interest in becoming the ruler of Hell. All he asked Crowley was to let him live peacefully without no interruption from anyone.
