But Mary’s perfect life would get cut short when Azazel torched Mary when she tried stopping him from influencing the infant Sammy. Her demise acted as a catalyst, pushing John Winchester into the hunting life. Her character made appearances in the form of a ghost, in flashbacks, and also in alternate universes. In Season 11 finale, Mary Winchester would get resurrected by Darkness AKA Amara as a gift to Dean Winchester with whom Amara shared a unique connection. Mary struggled to adjust to this new world which has completely changed and the reality that his kids are now grown men.
Once back, she tried reconnecting with her sons, and accepting the reality that they also have chosen the hunting life. Although it’s a sweet union, but things again get complex when the resurrected Mary throws herself back into hunting alongside Sam and Dean. Her expertise and knowledge definitely offers great aid to the boys in their cases. But she and boys find themselves at a crossroad when Mary aligns herself with the British Men of Letters.
BMOL is an organization which works towards eliminating the Supernatural threats while operating in a secrecy. Although their intentions are noble, but their means could be sinister. Mary joins BMOL believing that their methods are more effective and she could make a difference by aligning with them. But this creates a tension as Sam & Dean do not trust BMOL one bit, they are skeptical of the organization’s motives and methods. Both Sam and Dean believe that such harsh and aggressive methods with no regard for others’ life cannot be justified. As Mary learns more and more about BMOL, she ends up discovering some disturbing truths about the organization. BMOL treats hunters as disposable assets and wouldn’t mind sacrificing innocent lives just to achieve their goals.
