The family used to live in the city of New York, but the arrest of Hiram Lodge forced Veronica and her mother to come to Riverdale. After his release, Hiram also returned to the town of Riverdale that he once left desperately, only this time he returned with some sinister plans.
Hermione was born and raised in Riverdale whereas Hiram who was originally known as Jamie Luna lived with his family in New York City, but moved with his family to this small town to try their luck and make some fortune. Jamie Luna would find his way into the life of crime which offered him wealth, safety, and respect. He changed his name to Hiram Lodge and wooed Hermione, the two would get married and had Veronica. After getting convicted in a case of fraud, the entire assets of the Lodge family were frozen. Hermione took a job at Pop’s and began supporting the family while also running Hiram’s plans behind the scenes.

Apart from Hermione, Hiram had an illegitimate daughter with a singer in Miami named Hermosa. Hiram would keep this a secret and would take care of Hermosa and her mother financially. Hiram cares for her deeply and she respects Hiram and accepts him for who he is, unlike Veronica. The character of Hermosa is not present in Archie Comics, it has been created especially for the TV series.
While Hiram was in prison, Hermione took care of Hiram’s businesses and transformed them into a legitimate company. Hermione has always been loyal to Hiram, often times Veronica was surprised at his undying loyalty of Hermione. After Hiram was released, he planned to control Riverdale and in order to do that, he ensured Hermione would become the Mayor of the town so that he could have access to resources. However, Hiram and Hermione would have a falling when Hermione tried to get Hiram eliminated, but failed on two different occasions.
