Welcome back to Humor Nation. The character of Klaus Mikaelson has been portrayed by the actor Joseph Morgan, it’s a very complex character which carries a depth. The character made its first appearance in the show ‘Vampire Diaries’ and would then appear in its own spin-off show called ‘The Originals’. Klaus Mikaelson is an Original Vampire, a member of the Mikaelson Family who were the first vampires to ever exist. Out of all the Mikaelson Family members, Klaus is the most ruthless and definitely the most powerful original vampire, and perhaps one of the most popular characters ever in the TVD History. This character started off as an antagonist, but slowly ended up become a beloved anti-hero.
The origin of Klaus Mikaelson is a very fascinating one as he was born as a witch & werewolf. The witch lineage came from his mother whereas his biological father was a werewolf. This supplied him with supreme strength and different powers, along with the need to transform into a werewolf on a full moon. Things took an interesting turn when his mother Esther cast a spell which converted her family members into vampires known as the Originals. This turned Klaus into a vampire-werewolf hybrid as after becoming a vampire, he was unable to tap into his witch heritage. Both the vampire and werewolf sides supply him with some primal and animalistic instincts making him lethal.
Throughout his journey, for the most part Klaus was driven by a relentless thirst for power, control, and dominance. This need arose from his insecurity of being perceived as weak, a lot of this could be blamed to Mikael who always looked down upon Klaus, and considered him to be weak, inferior, and fragile. At a time, when Klaus wanted love, safety, and protection, he was denied of all it, and was forced to become stronger. He has struggled to find the love and acceptance that he truly deserved. As a result, he turned to deceit, manipulation, and using powerful means to get what he wanted.
Throughout the Vampire Diaries Universe, one of the most highlighted storylines is the complex relationship of Mikael and Klaus. Mikael psychologically scarred Klaus and gave him experiences which resulted in Klaus’ personality being changed significantly. Much of the behavior of Klaus is due to this relationship. Klaus in a way became sort of like Mikael, valuing power and trying to control everything.

He first found it in the form of Caroline Forbes who brought out the humane side of him. Hope Mikaelson, daughter of Klaus, resulted in the redemption of Klaus which also caused his personal growth and allowed him to display his paternal side.
In Originals, Klaus had undergone a drastic transformation where he learned to care about others and became a protector of the people who mattered to him. He rose above the tyranny and allowed himself to care and love.
