Legacies is the second spin-off of the Vampire Diaries which is currently airing its fourth season. Legacies is similar to TVD in numerous aspects, the main characters are teenagers and the storyline is more comical compared to TVD. While the show does expand the supernatural lore by introducing a variety of new magical characters that were not present in TVD and Originals.

Perhaps the biggest similarity between the two shows is that main protagonist of both the shows is an Orphan girl. A girl who has been through enough trauma and trying to get her life back on the track. While Elena lost her parents in an accident and had her aunt Jenna take care of her, she shared close friendships with people who were always there for her. Even though she was a human, but her courage and will power knew no limits. Whereas in case of Hope, she is one of the most powerful supernatural beings in the world. Her parents sacrificed themselves for her safety. Unlike Elena, she doesn’t have many friends.

Several characters from the Vampire Diaries have made a cameo or guest appearance on Legacies. The list includes Matt Donovan, Caroline Forbes, Freya Mikaelson, Kai Parker and a few more. Alaric Saltzman who was a vampire hunter on the Vampire Diaries is the principal of the Salvatore School, his role has been changed, he uses his mind more than his muscles on the show. One of the major villains from TVD, Kai Parker, who caused plenty of chaos in Season 6, but was then trapped into the Prison World found his way back to the Mystic Falls. Ultimately, he ends up dying at the hands of Alaric.

Legacies has made several references to TVD and Originals. On Legacies, we learned that Klaus is still watching over Hope and has not found peace yet. Also, while Klaus redeemed himself through his sacrifice and did numerous good deeds, but the citizens of Mystic Falls will always remember him as the greatest evil. This is pretty evident from the books present in the library at the Salvatore Boarding House which depicts Klaus as the big bad wolf.
