2. WORST SEASONS, CHARACTERS & STORYLINES
Opinion: Many fans consider Season 6 & 7 to be the worst seasons of the series. Many fans feel this was the low point. The entire storyline of Eve, Souls of Purgatory, Raphael were handled poorly. Move forward to Season 7, the entire Leviathans storyline was awful. It felt like we were watching an entirely different show in Season 6 & 7. Also, Roman was one of the worst villains in Supernatural.
Take: The reason many feel Season 6 & 7 are pretty bad is because these seasons came right after Season 5 which was a masterpiece. Eric Kripke’s story arc lasting from Season 1-5 is undoubtedly the best in the series. After he left the show, new showrunners took over, and it took them a while to figure out what works and what doesn’t. They made numerous changes, developed whole new storylines and characters. So it would be unfair of us to judge them. Also, if you really analyze it. Both Season 6 & 7 have plenty of amazing moments and episodes.
1. SUPERNATURAL FINALE WAS A LETDOWN
Opinion: The finale was not up to the mark and to the standard that Supernatural has set. Supernatural has delivered some amazing finales such as in Season 5 and Season 11. Considering this would be the last time the fans get to their favorite characters, expectations were high, and the show underperformed. In 15×19, the boys manage to defeat Chuck with the help of Jack. Now they are completely free from any outside influence. They don’t have to battle any more archangels or big baddie to save the world.
In next episode, 15×20, Sam and Dean go on a vampire hunt where Dean dies after being impaled on a nail, and Sam passes away due to old age. The reason this doesn’t sit well with some fans is because these two have battled Death, Darkness, God, and anything one can think of. Dean being a skilled hunter met his demise in such an underwhelming fashion is a let down. Also, the finale episode didn’t feature Castiel or any of the significant characters from the boys’ past except Bobby. It would have made sense to see Castiel welcoming Dean into the heaven.
TAKE: While yes, the finale was relatively inferior if you compare it with previous Supernatural Season finales. But we have to take the pandemic into consideration. The original finale plan involved cameos from numerous characters, but due to the pandemic restrictions, it couldn’t happen. The showrunners had to shoot the finale with limited resources.
If the show would have ended at season 5 I would never rewatch it. I constantly rewatch seasons 8-14 I’m so glad it lasted as long as it did!
